Nemesis Fitness hosted its annual Cinco de Mayo free community fun run on May 7, 2023, kicking off its 2023 season with over 600 registered participants in attendance. The event was a huge success, with participants of all ages and fitness levels coming together to celebrate the community and the spirit of fitness in a fun and unique way.

Paul Redford Jr., a Reading native and owner of Nemesis Fitness and a passionate runner himself, began organizing a series of free fun run events to promote health and fitness in the Reading community. His passion and excitement grew, as did the growing interest in the event, which he started in 2019 with just a handful of participants.

Redford Jr. is dedicated to making the event accessible to everyone in the community, regardless of their fitness level or background. The Nemesis Mantra of Could. Would. Should. DID. can be seen throughout race souvenirs as it is meant to encourage people to eliminate the reasons not to start and instead focus on beginning their fitness journey. The event’s diversity, with participants from different ethnicities, ages, and fitness levels, is what truly makes Nemesis events special.

“Nemesis’ series of community fun runs are great events that bring the community together,” Redford Jr. said. “It’s amazing to see people of all ages and fitness levels in the City of Reading participating in the events and having fun while improving their health.”

The event’s accessibility extends to pre – and post-race activities and celebrations. Redford Jr. designs and provides shirts, medals, and souvenirs for those in attendance. Also, food and products provided by local businesses are also at no cost to participants. This event’s vendors included Puma Athletic Company, who donated over 20 pairs of sneakers that were raffled off to participants at the close of the event. Other vendors that provided food at Sunday’s event include Let’s Taco About It, Sugar & Sweets by Ami, Doubletree by Hilton, Reading Area Water Authority, Fritura Kings, Dream & Co. Salon, and Winnie Tea Bar.

The event was the first of a series of fun runs that Nemesis Fitness will be hosting through the fall. The next event in the series is the Color Run, which will take place on July 23rd. This event is expected to be just as successful as the Cinco de Mayo run, and Redford Jr. is looking forward to seeing the community come together, bigger and better.
