The Reading Police Department is providing the following information relative to recent operations conducted by the PCCD grant funded Neighborhood Gun Violence Unit. The aim of this unit is to disrupt acts of violence and arrest those responsible as part of our multi-faceted efforts to ensure we have safe neighborhoods and streets throughout the City of Reading.

Between May 11th and May 16th the RPD Neighborhood Gun Violence Unit conducted several operations in the City of Reading focusing on enforcement initiatives to disrupt acts of gun violence. During those operations our officers and investigators made 10 arrests (7 felony, 1 misdemeanor, and located 2 wanted persons), and seized 5 firearms.

The Neighborhood Gun Violence Unit was started in February, 2023 and is staffed by personnel from the Reading Police Department’s Patrol and Investigation Divisions. During that time the unit has made 37 arrests and seized 13 illegal firearms, removing violent offenders and guns from our streets.

Information relative to gun violence can be reported to the Reading Police Department at 610-655-6116 or anonymously through Crime Alert Berks by calling 877-373-9913 or by texting 847411 and starting your message with the word ALERTBERKS and then your tip.
