The route starts at 2nd and Franklin wraps around to end at the intersection of 3rd and Spruce. This is a free public event to celebrate Juneteenth.

Parade Chairman and Abnormel Apparel LLC owner, Monique Johnson, is the leading force behind bringing this event to fruition, with the assistance of RIZE. As a small black-owned business (established in 2019) Abnormel Apparel LLC made headway by fighting through a male-dominated industry successfully. Her store was recently recognized as the winner of 2022’s “Berks County Community Votes” in the Men’s Retail division, it was awarded the Spirit Award by State Rep Manny Guzman and was the first recipient of the FLIC Grant Program at O’Pake Institute located in Alvernia University.  Abnormel Apparel mission for this event is to celebrate, educate, and reflect upon how far we’ve come since the abolishment of slavery, all while creating an avenue that will engage African- American youth in Reading.

RIZE is nonprofit youth organization geared toward solutions for social adversity, violence prevention, and criminal justice reform. The RIZE mission is to unite our culturally diverse communities by strengthening families for social change. To create art programs and policy initiatives that support families and youth.
