ARL to Host Free Adoptions As Part Of NBCUniversal Local’s ‘Clear The Shelters’ Campaign

The adoption fee will be waived for all animals available for adoption during the event.

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County (ARL) will be offering free adoptions this Saturday, August 26, 2023, as part of NBCUniversal Local’s 2023 Clear The Shelters pet adoption and donation campaign.

During the event, the adoption fee will be waived for all animals available for adoption at the shelter. All adopters must go through the ARL’s regular procedures to adopt, including completing an adoption profile and speaking with an adoption counselor to ensure that the pet they select is a good match for their home, family, and lifestyle.

To help adopters and adoptions to go as smoothly as possible, adopters are encouraged to plan to arrive early as long adoption wait times are expected. All available adoptable animals will be listed on our website at www.berksarl.org. Our site is updated every 12 minutes to reflect the most up-to-date inventory of who’s available to adopt. We suggest adopters browse it before the visit and select a few animals the family may want to meet.

We also recommend adopters bring their family members to meet their new pet at the time of adoption and bring their dogs from home to meet and greet other dogs at the shelter. Owners should ensure their dogs are vaccinated before bringing them into the shelter for the meets. Dog adopters will also want to bring cash or a check for a $7 dog license, which is required at the time of adoption under PA law. Adopters will also want to bring a cat carrier (or they can purchase one from the ARL for $5) and a dog collar and leash (or they can purchase one from the ARL).

The ARL will be open on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM (waitlist closes at 4:30 PM); no appointments are necessary.

This is the ninth consecutive year NBC and Telemundo owned stations are partnering with affiliate stations and animal shelters and rescues to promote pet adoption and raise funds for animal welfare. Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has helped more than 860,000 pets find new homes.

The 2023 Clear The Shelters will again feature online donations through Greater Good Charities, a global nonprofit and longtime campaign partner, which will host the fundraising campaign, built courtesy of Fundraise Up, an online donation platform that helps nonprofits grow revenue. Donors have the option to cover transaction fees with their donation so that 100% goes directly to the shelter or rescue of their choice. Online donations can be made during the campaign at ClearTheSheltersFund.org.
