The City of Reading 275th Anniversary steering committee is pleased to announce that the Anniversary Parade on Sunday, October 1, will be led by the Reading High School Boys Basketball Team as the Grand Marshall.

“As we celebrate our city and the people, places, and events that have shaped it, we find no better Grand Marshall to lead us into the next stage of Reading’s history than the Reading High Basketball Team,” said Laura Reppert, Special Events Coordinator for the City of Reading 27th Anniversary.

Entering its 125th season in 2024, Reading High Basketball has been home to renowned players, including Stu Jackson, Donyell Marshall, and Lonnie Walker IV, who have gone on to represent the City of Reading proudly in their professional careers, and the program continues to grow. Since 2017, the team has won three Pennsylvania State Championships.

Upon accepting the Grand Marshall position, the team noted, “We are excited to celebrate the 275th anniversary of our beautiful city with you all. We thank the City of Reading, Reading School District, our Reading High Squires Club, and other supporters for supporting us in our journey. Let’s go, Red Knights!”

The parade will kick off at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 1, starting at 2nd and Penn, and travel up Penn Street to the entrance of City Park at 11th and Penn. The parade will feature area marching bands, floats, and community groups. Following the parade, Bring The Change will host the Berks Cultural Diversity Festival in City Park from 12 p.m.-6 p.m. and feature an array of cultural performances, food trucks, an international game section, local vendors, and cultural tables to explore diversity in the city.

Both events are open to the public and free to attend. Deadline to apply to the parade is September 15. To find out more information or to participate, visit
