Reading Hospital employees attended a “Pink Party” on Sept. 12 to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Mobile Mammography Coach, which increases access to life-saving screenings through events held in Berks County.

“We may not be able to prevent breast cancer, but we can certainly minimize the severity if caught early,” said Terri Myers, breast cancer survivor and executive assistant to the Reading Hospital Foundation and Community Wellness. “Having easy access to a mammogram can truly be a lifesaver, and the Mobile Mammography Coach offers that access to so many women that may not have access otherwise. Breast cancer patients don’t ever think it’s going to be them; the diagnosis is always a surprise and it’s a battle. If you can help increase your odds of winning that battle, then why wouldn’t you? The Coach will help win many battles.”

During the event, held at the hospital’s Clock Tower, employees had the opportunity to tour the unit, schedule an upcoming appointment, speak with Mobile Mammography Coach team members, and enjoy pink cupcakes and popcorn.

“We had such a great turnout at the Pink Party,” said Katherine Thornton, President of Reading Hospital Foundation. “Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are able to provide our community and our employees with a mobile mammography unit to increase access to life-saving appointments.”

The Mobile Mammography Coach, sponsored by the Reading Hospital Foundation, screened 790 women through 97 events in Fiscal Year 2023. 81.3 percent of all women screened by the coach were residents of Berks County.

The American College of Radiology has granted the Mobile Mammography Coach a three-year accreditation, which guarantees that women who have an exam on the coach will receive the same level of patient care found at any of Tower Health’s mammography imaging locations.
