Safe Berks Fundraiser to Support Major Renovations at Chestnut Street Location

Safe Berks is holding the new and improved Celebration of Peace event on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at the DoubleTree by Hilton at Reading from 6-8 p.m., with a special ticketed meet and greet with Troy Vincent held at 5 p.m. Troy Vincent Sr., former Philadelphia Eagle, and current EVP of Football Operations at the NFL, will be the keynote speaker. During the event, Safe Berks will have food stations, a cash bar, a raffle, and live auction items. For more information, please visit www.SafeBerks.org and click on the Celebration of Peace graphic on the home page, or you can reach out to Mindy McIntosh at MindyM@SafeBerks.org.

Vincent has stated that “Domestic violence and sexual assault are issues faced by all of us…the day (my mother) left my stepdad, I promised her I would never stop fighting for her and other victims of abuse.” Vincent is a vital advocate against domestic violence and sexual assault and continues to spread his story and directly support survivors.

The critical funds raised from the celebration will help Safe Berks house additional survivors and provide services such as counseling, case management, and financial empowerment. While we’ve made great strides in our effort towards zero tolerance of domestic violence and sexual assault, Safe Berks needs your help. Each sponsorship directly benefits survivors who may not have a place to stay, own a winter coat, or even know where their next meal is coming from. By donating and becoming an annual sponsor, you will make a difference in each survivor’s life.

One of the Long-Range Strategies is ‘to expand efforts to create a financially sustainable community resource, capable of fulfilling our mission and achieving our vision for generations to come.’ Despite the challenges that Safe Berks has regarding continuous funding reductions, remaining financially sustainable is key to ensuring Safe Berks can continue to help each survivor who seeks assistance.

Dolan Construction will begin massive renovations at 255 Chestnut St., Reading, the location of Safe Berks Safe House. These much-anticipated renovations will allow Safe Berks to add six additional bedrooms for survivors to be housed, will create an additional two offices, and will expand the laundry and bathroom areas at the Safe House. The renovations will begin in early 2024 and will continue until completed.
