Berks Encore held its annual community breakfast fundraising event on Wednesday, May 22, at the Doubletree by Hilton Reading to present its Leadership by Example Award to honor the legacy of Richard Redner and Redner’s Markets for their many contributions to the community.

Redner’s Markets has a long-standing partnership with Berks Encore to support the older adults we serve in Berks County.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Redner’s helped Berks Encore prepare and package 10,000 bonus meals that were delivered to homebound Meals on Wheels clients to ensure they had enough food during the shutdown. Redner’s Markets and Abbott Nutrition, the manufacturers of Ensure and Glucerna, continue to make an impact for Berks Encore as the title sponsors for their annual Senior Expo. Berks Encore’s volunteer grocery shopping program is a partnership with Redner’s, where volunteers shop and deliver groceries for those seniors unable to shop for themselves. Eighty-five volunteers filled 1,300 grocery orders in 2023. The Redner’s Save-a-Tape program provides non-profits the opportunity to earn 1% rebates of the grocery receipts collected and submitted to Redner’s Markets.

Ryan Redner, President and CEO of Redner’s Markets, accepted the award on behalf of his father, Richard Redner, and Redner’s Markets.
