On Thursday, June 13, Tower Health announced that Robert Brigham, MD, has joined the Tower Health Board of Directors for a three-year term, effective March 25, 2024.

“My commitment to the health system remains as strong today as when I was a practicing physician,” Dr. Brigham said. “I’m honored to rejoin the team and hope to help advance the positive momentum of Tower Health for our patients and our communities.”

Dr. Brigham retired from Reading Hospital following a prestigious 41-year medical career that included helping to establish the first and only Level I Trauma Center in Berks County and was integral in the proposal, development, construction, and opening of Reading HealthPlex for Advanced Surgical & Patient Care, which opened in 2016.  In recognition of his service, the surgical suite has been named the Robert A. Brigham, M.D. Surgical Center.

During his tenure, he was also instrumental in educating nurses, medical students, residents, and fellows through several leadership positions. He served as a member of the Reading Hospital Board of Directors for 20 years, Chief of the Department of Vascular Surgery, Chair of the Department of Surgery, and President of the Board of Directors at Reading Hospital SurgiCenter at Spring Ridge.

“Dr. Brigham’s legacy remained in the forefront of everyone’s mind, we knew his expertise would make a wonderful addition to our Board,” said P. Sue Perrotty, Tower Health President and CEO. “It is a privilege to work alongside him.”

In addition to his career at Reading Hospital, Dr. Brigham is a retired Colonel in the Medical Corps of the United States Army. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, and then graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He completed his Fellowship and Residency training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

The Tower Health Board of Directors consists of dedicated volunteers who provide community oversight to Tower Health as it fulfills its mission to provide high-quality, cost-effective healthcare for the communities it serves. Additional directors who continue their service to Tower Health include: Chair, Meg Mueller; Vice Chair, Jim Boscov, C; Tod Auman; Mary Kargbo, RN, MSN; Pete Molinaro; William Thornton Jr.; Douglas Tieman; and Brent Wagner, MD. P. Sue Perrotty also serves on the Board ex officio.
