The Highlands at Wyomissing® resident-led Scholarship Committee recently hosted its annual scholarship award ceremony and reception, where $1,500 scholarships were awarded to 21 well-deserving employees striving to advance their careers.

On Tuesday, June 18, employees, their families, and residents gathered to celebrate and honor these dedicated team members. The Highlands at Wyomissing Scholarship program, established in 2019, aims to provide financial support to employees pursuing education at traditional colleges or universities, community colleges, trade schools, or advanced certificate programs. To date, the program has awarded nearly $90,000 in scholarships and raised almost $300,000, working towards an endowment fund to ensure ongoing support for employees’ educational and career development goals.

“We are delighted to celebrate the success of our resident-led Scholarship Fund,” said Kevin DeAcosta, President and CEO of The Highlands at Wyomissing. “It is with great pride that the resident-led Scholarship Committee awarded these scholarships to such deserving employees who are passionately pursuing their academic aspirations. Since the program’s inception, the committee has granted an impressive total of 59 scholarships, empowering our dedicated employees to pursue their educational dreams. Together, we are creating a community that values growth, learning, and unwavering support for one another.”

DeAcosta also recognized the Scholarship Fund Committee and its members: Barbara Kline, Amy Reinsel, Renee Dietrich, Sue Wachs, Dr. George Gerhart, and Jack Boyle (Chairman), for their hard work and dedication in making this event a success.

To be eligible, employees must have worked at The Highlands for a minimum of one year, demonstrated post-high school plans, and be in good standing. Interested employees submitted an essay to the Scholarship Committee discussing their career goals and how working at The Highlands will help them achieve these goals and participated in an interview with the committee.
