Daniel Boone Homestead to Host Apron and Basket Making Workshops

From Daniel Boone Homestead

Daniel Boone Homestead will host an Apron Workshop on Sunday, Oct. 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., as well as a Basket Making Workshop on Sunday, Nov. 16, from noon to 4 p.m.

About the Apron Workshop

The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates will offer an Apron Workshop this October. Join historian Becky Hughes and The Hopewell Quilters for a beginner sewing workshop on aprons. Participants will learn the history of women’s aprons and make their very own project to take home just in time for the holiday baking season. No prior sewing experience is required – great for beginners! Participants are asked to bring the following supplies: 1.5 yards of cotton fabric and 3 yards of ribbon. Sewing machines, thread, needles, etc., will be provided.

Registration is required for the workshop, and a form can be obtained by emailing the Daniel Boone Homestead at thedanielboonehomestead@gmail.com. The registration fee is $20.00 for Daniel Boone Homestead Associate members and $25.00 for non-members. The workshop will take place in the Wayside Lodge at the Daniel Boone Homestead.

About the Basket Making Workshop

Join the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates for its Basket Making Workshop led by Vicky Heffner. The workshop will take place in the Wayside Lodge at the Daniel Boone Homestead. This workshop’s featured project is a Fort Boonesborough Basket. Participants will reproduce this basket woven by the resident basket weaver at Fort Boonesborough in Kentucky, using material fashioned from a tree. The reed was most likely dyed from natural materials like goldenrod, red beets, and walnuts, procured from the resident weaver of the fort. This basket will look attractive hanging on your front door or any wall in your home, and a variety of colored reeds will be available to choose from. This basket is great for a beginner weaver, and a more experienced weaver can add extra touches to make it more difficult.

Space is limited to 12 participants. Registration is required for the workshop, and a form can be obtained by emailing the Daniel Boone Homestead at thedanielboonehomestead@gmail.com. The registration fee is $50.00 for Daniel Boone Homestead Associate members and $60.00 for non-members. Checks can be made out to the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates and mailed to: Daniel Boone Homestead Associates, 400 Daniel Boone Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508. Please register by Nov. 9. All proceeds go to support the Daniel Boone Homestead. Participants are asked to bring the following items if they have them readily available (extra items will be on hand if needed): Bucket, towel, 10 spring clothespins, ruler or tape measure, old pair of scissors, and a flathead screwdriver.
