Berks Community Television (BCTV) recently welcomed two new interns — Ryan Elmore and Nas Bailey — to its team for the spring semester. They will help with content creation for BCTV’s digital platforms, provide technical and control room support for studio programming in the Visions studio, and take on various roles in special projects and initiatives.
Meet the interns
Ryan Elmore, of Barrington, NJ, is a senior at Albright College, majoring in English and communications and minoring in Spanish and theatre.
Ryan serves as the editor of Albright AM, Albright College’s only arts magazine. But his involvement with the arts community doesn’t stop there — he is also extremely active in the theatre community at Albright and within the greater Reading area.
In February, Ryan will direct a contemporary play entitled Middletown by Will Eno at Albright College, adding to his experience of his own original, full-length, and one-act plays being showcased in Berks County.
With encouragement from his professor, advisor, and mentor, Dr. Heidi Mau, Ryan applied to BCTV with the goal of learning how a community media organization operates and gaining hands-on experience.
When asked to share about his dream job, Ryan said, “I have a passion for arts coverage, and I’d hope to realize that in a full-time position in media. I hope to, with coverage and other writing, produce content that is worthwhile, community-oriented, and reflective of the diverse and complex world we live in.”
Ryan enjoys spending his free time reading, writing, watching movies, spending time with his two dogs, and traveling.
Nasirah “Nas” Bailey, of Philadelphia, is a senior at Kutztown University, majoring in cinema, television, and media production (CTM). Nas serves as a teaching assistant for two Kutztown CTM courses — documentary and media law and ethics.
“BCTV’s mission being to empower and engage the community through media is exactly why I pursued an internship,” Nas said. “Being from Philly, uplifting and empowering my community is something I have always strived to do, whether it’s to highlight important or current events or showcase positive events taking place in the community.”
Through the internship, Nas hopes to learn about the different roles at a community media organization and their respective responsibilities while working with a team and gaining experience in the workforce.
“About a year ago, I was in an accident that resulted in me fracturing my spine and ribs,” Nas added. “I say this because it was hard for me to come back to school and try to ‘compete’ or show I’m just as skilled and talented as my peers, and I’m grateful and ecstatic to have been given this opportunity to intern for BCTV.”
Nas’s dream job is to be involved with filmmaking, either through writing, editing, producing, or directing.
Nas enjoys spending their free time watching movies, writing stories and scripts, and filming with their friends.
Ryan Elmore and Nas Bailey, we look forward to watching you grow during your time at BCTV!
