A Century of Black History Commemoration

Alvernia University’s O’Pake Institute, through its Cultural Coalition, is proud to present Expressions of Excellence: A Century of Black History Commemoration, a vibrant celebration of Black History Month honoring the richness, resilience, and lasting contributions of the Black community.

This year’s celebration provides a dynamic platform to honor achievements, culture, and history, while fostering meaningful dialogue and connection among students, staff, faculty, and the broader community. With the 2026 theme, A Century of Black History Commemoration, participants will explore the remarkable journey of Black individuals, communities, and movements over the past 100 years, highlighting stories of perseverance, innovation, and cultural pride.

The evening will feature immersive art installations, engaging programming, and culturally relevant cuisine, alongside student and community member awards recognizing those who exemplify excellence and leadership within the Black community. From interactive exhibits to commemorative collages celebrating iconic figures, attendees will experience the richness of Black history and culture across generations.

Join in celebrating a century of achievement, inspiring meaningful dialogue, and fostering connections across our community. Together, we can elevate
voices, honor history, and empower the next generation of changemakers.
