Reading Muhlenberg CTC, Olivet Club Provide Engaging Career Exploration for Students

The Reading Muhlenberg CTC SkillsUSA has partnered with the Olivet Boys and Girls Club of Reading to provide engaging career exploration opportunities for local youth. This collaboration introduces students ages 12 to 17 to programs and career pathways available through the Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center (RMCTC), helping them make informed decisions as they prepare for high school and beyond.

The initiative began when Brandy Del Gallego, Director of Wellness and SEL at Olivet, reached out to RMCTC with an idea to support career awareness for club members. Together, they developed a structured, career-based program supported by RMCTC staff, students, Occupational Advisory Committee members, alumni, SkillsUSA advisors, and community partners.

The RMCTC SkillsUSA community service team — Jadien Holifield (Sophomore), Annabelle Salom Milander (Senior), and Jayleana DaLessio (Junior), along with SkillsUSA officer Alexander Ocasio (Sophomore) — organized and facilitated interactive career lessons throughout January, February, and March. The program has been met with enthusiastic participation from both students and staff. The program director shared that she is learning alongside the students, highlighting the collaborative and educational nature of the experience.

RMCTC’s community service team has also begun building strong relationships with Olivet students, extending their involvement by participating in additional club activities beyond the career lessons. Activities included hands-on challenges, Jeopardy-style games, and presentations from RMCTC staff and community professionals, culminating in a final activity and tour at RMCTC.

Students received career exploration booklets and practical items such as first aid kits, while SkillsUSA members, RMCTC students, and community businesses also supported Olivet through donation collections and meal preparation. The program has fostered strong connections, meaningful learning, and excitement for future career possibilities — truly “Championing the Future.”
