From Rotary District 7430
High school students in grades 9 through 12 from schools across Rotary District 7430 took part in this year’s Four Way Test Speech Contest. Rotary Clubs coordinate with local high schools to hold Club-level contests, and winners from these contests advance to four Regional Contests.
- North Region participating Rotary Clubs included: Allentown West, Bethlehem, Emmaus, Nazareth, and Whitehall Area.
- South Region participating Rotary Clubs included: Harleysville, Quakertown, Souderton-Telford, Spring-Ford, and Upper Perk.
- West Region participating Rotary Clubs included: Fleetwood, Kutztown, Muhlenberg, Spring Township Centennial, and West Reading-Wyomissing.
- East Region participating Rotary Clubs included: Ambler/Bluebell, Central Bucks, Doylestown, Hatboro, Horsham, and Warminster.
The top students from each region then competed at the Rotary District 7430 Contest, held on Saturday, March 28. Each participant selects their own speech topic. The speeches aim to persuade while embodying Rotary’s Four Way Test — a set of ethical questions Rotarians use in personal and professional life.
The questions are:
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
These students delivered compelling speeches on important topics. According to the judges, it was one of the most challenging and inspiring contests they have evaluated. Congratulations to the winners who received certificates and cash prizes:
- 1st Place: Jazzmin Hollada (Upper Perk Rotary Club)
- 2nd Place: Xavier Gibson (Fleetwood Rotary Club)
- 3rd Place: Sriman Goli (Nazareth Rotary Club)
- Honorable Mention: Adrianna Pastorino (Horsham Rotary Club)
Committee Chair Shushma Patel commented, “Rotary District 7430 appreciates all the Rotarian volunteers who collaborated to make this contest a meaningful experience for youth. Together, we have created an event that celebrates the development of public speaking skills.”
