Reading Housing Authority is thrilled to announce the official opening of the Oakbrook Recreation Park! As part of the Oakbrook Center for Community Services (OCCS), RHA is bringing new outdoor recreation opportunities to residents of Oakbrook Homes and the broader community.
The park’s flagship feature, a modernized baseball field, now offers dugouts, equipment storage, outfield and foul-line fencing, foul poles, an electronic scoreboard, an announcer’s booth, and accessible spectator seating. The park’s resurfaced basketball court has also received new bleachers, preparing the space for clinics and leagues.
Oakbrook Recreation Park now includes mature trees, a walking path, benches, and a picnic grove with three eight-seat picnic tables and charcoal grills. In the coming weeks, the park will open its concession stand, allowing event organizers to rent the space to serve park visitors.
“We are incredibly grateful to our partners at the City of Reading,” said Stacey Keppen, President & CEO. “Without their support, this project would have been delayed while additional funding was pursued through other channels.”
RHA remains on track to complete the final phase of Oakbrook Recreation Park in fall 2026, when a grand opening will occur. This phase will include a new playground, with an area dedicated to the Patton Avenue Learning Center during operating hours, allowing the center to serve additional children. The final phase will also add a pavilion and restroom facilities, all of which will be made possible through the support of U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan.
On Thursday, May 14, at 4 p.m., the park will host its first baseball game in partnership with Olivet Boys and Girls Club. Together with Leyenda 21 Baseball, the organizations invite youth to register for summer baseball.
RHA also invites partner agencies to consider delivering services and programming to residents of Oakbrook Homes and the surrounding community.
