FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A community-powered platform makes it easy to explore what’s happening locally
Reading, PA — Berks Community Television (BCTV) has announced the launch of Berks Calendar, a robust, easy-to-use community calendar designed to help solve a long-standing challenge in Berks: the lack of a centralized, comprehensive, and trusted community event calendar.
Residents have been frustrated for years by local event information that is fragmented, inconsistent, and difficult to navigate. Event organizers struggle to promote events efficiently and coordinate scheduling, and they spend valuable time recreating basic listings across multiple platforms.
Berks Calendar, powered by BCTV, changes that by aggregating event information from across the community into one highly searchable, easily explorable platform. “We are confident that BCTV is the reliable steward needed to offer a solution by leveraging our existing digital infrastructure and an established county-wide audience,” said Heather Adams, executive director at BCTV.
“This is a community-powered resource. The more people that use and contribute to Berks Calendar, the more valuable it becomes for everyone. Site traffic and event listings are already growing every day.”
BerksCalendar.com is designed with both users and organizers in mind. There is no charge to add events, and no paywalls, memberships, or passwords to access the calendar.
- Centralized Listings: Events from across Berks County in one place
- Easy Discovery: Search by date, category, or keyword
- User-Friendly Experience: Clean, intuitive design for quick browsing
- Community Contributions: Anyone can easily submit events to be included
“We built this with a single goal: easy access to the most local event information in one place. We’re launching version ‘1.0’ of the calendar now and we’ll add and refine features in response to needs and demand. We have some next steps in mind, and we are growing the calendar’s reach and functionality constantly as event listings are increasing.”
Berks Calendar strengthens the local media landscape and supports shared civic infrastructure by enhancing, rather than competing with other efforts.
BCTV staff member Jon Jordan has led the development of the project. “Berks Calendar is more than just another community calendar,” Jordan said. “It features events submitted to us directly by individuals and organizations, but also local events collected from various other sources. We are developing the ultimate event calendar for our county, and that is only possible with BCTV’s deep-rooted relationships across the community.”
The launch of Berks Calendar reflects BCTV’s commitment to connecting people, sharing information, and building community engagement across Berks County.
