From Berks Encore
Berks Encore is excited to announce the launch of beCurious, a new lifelong learning initiative designed to inspire adults to continue learning, exploring, and connecting through engaging educational experiences.
The inaugural summer series will feature four unique programs tied to the celebration of America’s semi-quincentennial. Each event is being hosted in collaboration with local cultural organizations that share a commitment to lifelong learning and community engagement.
The series begins on Thursday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m., at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in the Boscov Theatre. The kickoff program will feature music by The Beatles reimagined as classical compositions in the style popular during the Revolutionary era. The performance will showcase four talented student musicians from the Berks County community, who will also provide insight into the art of musical arrangement and interpretation.
Additional summer programs include:
- Tuesday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. — A discussion at Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks examining the Declaration of Independence as a sacred text and exploring the intentions of the founders and the continued impact of their words today.
- Tuesday, July 7, at 11:15 a.m. — A program at Reading Public Museum exploring the development of American classical music, featuring a professional string quartet from Berks Sinfonietta and commentary by Music Director Dr. David McConnell.
- Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 10:30 a.m. — A session at Berks History Center led by a professional forensic genealogist who will share tools and techniques for researching family history.
“beCurious reflects Berks Encore’s ongoing commitment to helping adults stay engaged, connected, and inspired through meaningful experiences,” said LuAnn Outman, CEO. “We hope community members of all backgrounds will join us to learn something new, meet others, and celebrate the joy of lifelong learning.”
Programs are open to the community. Each event includes a $10.00 registration fee, which reserves a participant’s spot and supports Berks Encore’s services for older adults throughout Berks County.
