South Central Transit Authority (SCTA) will implement new fares for BARTA Special Services shared-ride, paratransit service effective Aug. 1, 2026. This marks the first fare adjustment since 2017.
Under the updated structure, the average full fare will rise from $24.92 to $29.50, with rates varying by mileage. Customer co-pays will range from $2.65 for trips under two miles to $8.40 for trips of 16 miles or more.
Fares for riders eligible under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will increase to $3.60 per trip, while Personal Care Attendants will continue to ride free. Updated fares also apply to the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) program.
SCTA invites public input on the announced changes. Comments may be submitted in person, in writing, or via email at barta@bartabus.com. Written comments should be addressed to: BARTA, 1700 N. 11th St., Reading, PA 19601.
