Knowing how to recognize if someone is experiencing a mental health crisis and how to respond appropriately can have a lifesaving impact. To help more community members build these skills, Reading Hospital’s Community Wellness team is hosting a Free Mental Health First Aid Training.

The event, sponsored by Reading Hospital Foundation, will be held on Tuesday, July 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in Reading Hospital 5th Avenue Conference Center, 420 S. 5th Ave., West Reading. The training is free; however, registration is required, and participants must complete two hours of pre-work prior to attending the course. Interested individuals can register here.

“Mental health is a priority for our health system because it impacts so many individuals and families,” said Desha Dickson, vice president of community wellness at Tower Health. “We remain committed to educating our community about the signs and symptoms of mental health challenges and the community resources that are available so we can support those in need.”

Mental Health First Aid training teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training will provide skills needed to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.

This training is appropriate for police officers, hospital staff, first responders, employers, faith leaders, community members, and caring individuals.
