From UGI Utilities
UGI Utilities is scheduled to begin system upgrades in Lyons Borough, Berks County, on Monday, July 20. The work is part of UGI’s commitment to provide safe and reliable service and is an opportunity for some homes and businesses along the project route to convert to natural gas.
The installation of the new natural gas main is expected to be completed by mid-August and will impact the following areas:
- West State Avenue from South Kemp Street to Park Avenue. The road will remain open, but flagging will occur at the intersection of West State Avenue and Park Avenue.
- Park Avenue from West State Avenue to South Main Street. The road will be closed to through traffic, but local traffic will be allowed access.
- South Main Street and Park Avenue intersection. Drivers should expect brief slowdowns and possible lane restrictions in the area.
Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. In addition to lane restrictions, drivers can also expect parking restrictions. There will be some interruptions to natural gas service that will require UGI to have access to properties to inspect and relight equipment. Also, customers with natural gas meters that are inside will likely have those meters moved to an outside location.
Weather and working conditions may have an impact on the completion date. After underground work is complete, final paving and restoration will occur later.
UGI encourages anyone interested in converting to natural gas to contact the company at 800-276-2722 or gasconversion@ugi.com.
