Join the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates for their annual fall lecture series, “The American Revolution in Pennsylvania,” on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m., at the Daniel Boone Homestead’s DeTurk Education Center. Historians and scholars will share their knowledge on various topics with the local community and its visitors. This year’s lectures will focus on the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution. Is it possible to sit out a violent revolution? What happens when neutrality isn’t an option? Join Daniel Boone Homestead Associates as historian Aaron Sullivan explores these questions in the context of the American Revolution in Pennsylvania, looking closely at the British military occupation of Philadelphia and the often tragic plight of the many Americans who struggled to survive the war without picking one side or the other.
Aaron Sullivan is an author and historian living near Philadelphia. He teaches history at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ, and his book The Disaffected (Penn Press, 2019) received the Book of the Year Award from the American Revolutionary Roundtable of Philadelphia. Sullivan received his Doctorate in History from Temple University in Philadelphia in 2014 and his Bachelor’s in Computer Science from LeTourneau University in 2004.
Admission for the lecture is a $2.00 per person suggested donation and free for Daniel Boone Homestead Associate members. Please, no pets and no smoking. About Daniel Boone Homestead
The Daniel Boone Homestead is the birthplace of the famed frontiersman, born in 1734. The Boone House, constructed in three stages throughout the 18th century, is a 10-room stone structure fully furnished to the period and situated on 579 acres of rolling countryside. The Daniel Boone Homestead is located halfway between Reading and Pottstown, one mile north of Route 422 near Baumstown. The Homestead is owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, and daily historic operations are run by the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates, a local, nonprofit organization.
