The Berks County Treasurer’s Office is now accepting online applications and electronic payments for bingo and small games of chance licenses, providing organizations with a faster, more convenient way to submit their applications.
The new online system eliminates the need for applicants to rely solely on the U.S. Postal Service to deliver applications to the Treasurer’s Office. Applications submitted online are received immediately, allowing Treasurer’s Office staff to begin the review process without waiting for mail delivery.
“The ability to apply and pay online is a significant convenience for organizations that need bingo or small games of chance licenses,” said Berks County Treasurer Mitchell R. Darcourt. “While the statutory requirements for obtaining these licenses have not changed, applicants now have another option for submitting their information and completing the process.”
Applicants who use the online system will create a secure, user-specific account. Once registered, organizations can review documentation currently on file with the Treasurer’s Office and make updates directly through the system, helping ensure that the most accurate information is maintained.
New applicants will be able to upload required documentation directly into the system, establishing an electronic history that can be used for future applications. The system also prompts applicants to provide required information before an application can be submitted, helping reduce delays caused by missing information.
Applicants can choose to pay electronically or submit payment by check or money order. Electronic payments are subject to an associated processing fee. When an applicant pays electronically, the funds are placed on hold until the application is approved. If an application is rejected, the hold on the funds will be released. Information on application fees and online processing fees can be found at the Treasurer’s webpage on the Berks County website.
Applicants who submit their applications online but choose to pay by check or money order should be aware that the application will not be finalized until the Treasurer’s Office completes its review and receives payment.
While online submission can expedite the Treasurer’s Office’s review and result in a quicker turnaround for issuing licenses, all statutory requirements and timelines remain in effect. In particular, the required 30-day window for license requests must still be followed. The new online process does not change the law or the requirements for obtaining a license; it simply provides applicants with an additional method for applying.
The Treasurer’s Office strongly recommends that applicants use the online system whenever possible to take advantage of faster delivery, electronic document submission, and electronic payment options.
Additional information and access to the online application system are available through the Berks County Treasurer’s Office website at berkspa.gov/departments/treasurer.
