From Daniel Boone Homestead
The Daniel Boone Homestead is participating in the Berks Trail Challenge from May 1 to Oct. 31. As part of its participation in the Challenge, the homestead will host a history hike on Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. The hike will take visitors through the homestead’s historic area, stopping to view various historic structures and landscapes, including the Boone House and Bertolet Log House. The hike will take roughly one hour and will primarily be on gravel stone walking paths. Sturdy shoes are encouraged, and dogs are welcome but must be leashed. There is no fee for this program, but donations are always welcome. The program is rain or shine and is presented and funded by The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates.
The Berks Trail Challenge continues through Oct. 31. This is a great opportunity for community members to engage in a free form of exercise and explore the various trails and parks throughout Berks County. If you can’t make the history hike, feel free to visit the homestead during its open hours and complete the Boone Trail for the challenge. It starts at the DeTurk Education Center, winds behind the Wayside Lodge, and ends around the Historic Area loop. More information can be found at Berks Trail Challenge | Tower Health. Trail challenge participants are encouraged to submit their trail challenge card by Nov. 6 to be entered to win a prize. Register online at towerhealth.org/btc and plan a visit to the eight participating trails. Participants must record the unique symbol located at each trail, complete at least six of the eight trails, and return their challenge card via email, fax, or mail.
