From Commute PA
Commute PA is encouraging commuters across southcentral Pennsylvania to add more sustainable trips to their travel options this month during their “Go Car Free” campaign. By making small changes to daily travel habits, residents can cut transportation costs, decrease carbon emissions, and ease regional traffic.
Under the theme “One Less Car. One More Hero,” the initiative highlights the powerful environmental and financial impact of choosing a different mode of transportation. Commuters can participate by biking, walking, riding public transit, carpooling, vanpooling, or working from home.
The month-long campaign also builds momentum toward World Car Free Day on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Commute PA is calling on all residents to make a special effort to leave their personal vehicles at home on this globally recognized day of action. It’s the perfect opportunity to try a new way to travel this month and experience first-hand the benefits of a greener commute.
“Every single non-drive-alone trip makes a tangible difference in our local communities,” said Matt Boyer, Commute PA Executive Director. “Choosing a ‘Go Car Free’ way to travel reduces daily stress, keeps money in your pocket, and directly contributes to cleaner air across our region. We want to celebrate everyone who steps up to be a hero for their commute in September, especially as we rally together for World Car Free Day on the 22nd.”
How to take action:
- Choose a different commute: Bike, walk, take public transit, carpool, vanpool, or work from home.
- Log trips: Log at least four non-drive-alone trips in Commute PA during September.
- Win rewards: Qualified participants will automatically be entered into a drawing to win one of four $100 gift cards.
