Reading Community Players will present Four Weddings and an Elvis, a wacky romantic comedy by Nancy Frick. Performances are in Downtown Reading at the WCR Center for the Arts on October 16th-18th.
With a cast of memorable characters, Four Weddings and an Elvis is a fast-moving, laugh-out-loud comedy that celebrates the power and absurdities of love, the resilience of second chances, and the strange ways people try to make sense of their lives.
Sandy, the four-times-married, three-times-divorced owner of a Las Vegas wedding chapel, has seen it all — and then some. In Four Weddings and an Elvis, audiences are treated to four of Sandy’s most outrageous matrimonial moments. Bev and Stan arrive determined to be married by the King himself as a form of revenge on their exes. Vanessa and Bryce, two aging stars clinging to their public images, stage a wedding as a publicity stunt. Martin, a gentle postal worker, and Fiona, a tough ex-con, race to say “I do” before the police arrive.
Nancy Frick’s play is a perfect blend of sharp comic set pieces and surprising heart. Each wedding is its own little world — wildly different in tone but connected by Sandy’s weary, wry perspective. RCP’s production leans into the physical comedy and the humanity beneath the jokes so audiences leave laughing and hopefully a little moved.
Actress Amy Hudak has enjoyed the experience and has high hopes for the audience. She states, “I hope the audience finds the heart in the core of each of these marriage-gone-wrong-or-right tales, and that they can relate to both the absurd and the mundane challenges experienced by the couples in this play. “
Tim Weiss, portraying an Elvis impersonator, also expects a positive audience reaction. “This is a fun cast with a lot of talented and goofy actors. Live theater is a window into other worlds, and a chance to laugh, cry, feel good, and escape for a few hours from day-to-day monotony and stress.”
Performances are October 16th and 17th at 7pm with a matinee on Sunday, October 18th at 2pm. Contact Reading Community Players box office at
