From YMCA of Reading & Berks County
The YMCA of Reading & Berks County invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of its new tennis and pickleball courts during the annual Racquet Sports Open House on Friday, Oct. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sinking Spring YMCA, 4920 Penn Ave.
Visitors can explore the updated indoor court space, meet the racquet sports team, and learn about lessons, clinics, leagues, open play, tournaments, and events for a range of ages and experience levels. Exclusive open-house discounts will also be available during the event.
The expanded facility features four tennis courts and 10 pickleball courts across dedicated and dual-purpose court space, providing more opportunities for year-round recreation, instruction, and competitive play. The open house welcomes people who are new to the game, returning to the court, or looking to advance their skills.
“This expansion gives us more room to welcome new players and support the people who already make racquet sports part of their lives,” said Jesse Whiteman, branch executive director of the Sinking Spring YMCA. “We invite our neighbors to come see the courts, meet our team, and discover how much fun it can be to stay active and connected at the Y.”
The improvements build on a capital grant from YMCA of the USA announced last winter to support pickleball expansion and renovations to the Sinking Spring YMCA’s racquet sports wing. The project was developed in response to growing community demand for court time and programs, with an emphasis on creating more access for new and returning players.
Tennis offerings include lessons and clinics that help players learn, improve, and connect. Pickleball opportunities include open play, leagues, lessons, clinics, and tournaments for both new and competitive players. During the open house, guests can meet the staff and explore options that fit their interests and experience.
