From City of Reading
The City of Reading’s Public Works crews will begin the 2026 curbside loose-leaf collection program on Monday, Oct. 12. Residents are asked not to place loose leaves at the curb before the start of collection.
Crews will collect loose leaves in various areas throughout the city, including:
- 18th Ward and South of Penn areas
- Northeast and Hampden Heights areas
- Hessian Camp and East Reading areas
- Northwest area
- Northmont, Riverdale, and Glenside areas
Residents are reminded to keep grass clippings, branches, brush, and other debris out of loose-leaf piles. These materials can damage the collection equipment.
The City also reminds residents that loose-leaf collection does not follow a set daily schedule. Crews may experience delays due to weather, equipment or personnel availability, and emergencies. If leaves have not been raked to the curb when the collection equipment passes through a block, crews will not backtrack immediately. However, periodic return trips will be made through neighborhoods.
“Fall is a busy time for our Public Works crews, and we appreciate residents helping us keep leaf collection running smoothly,” said Mayor Eddie Morán. “By keeping leaves free of branches, brush, and other debris and following the collection guidelines, residents can help our crews do their job safely and efficiently.”
Leaf bag collection
The City will also continue its regular collection of bagged leaves on residents’ normal yard waste collection day.
Bagged leaf collection will follow this schedule:
- Northeast areas: Mondays
- Center City, East Reading, 18th Ward, and South of Penn areas: Tuesdays
- Northwest, Northmont, Riverdale, and Glenside areas: Wednesdays
All bagged leaves must be placed in biodegradable paper bags. Plastic bags will not be accepted.
The last scheduled day for leaf collection is Friday, Dec. 4. This date may be extended if leaves fall later than expected. Following the conclusion of leaf collection, equipment will be converted for winter weather operations.
