More Than 300 Attend Matt Paxton Event at The Highlands at Wyomissing®

From The Highlands at Wyomissing®

The Highlands at Wyomissing recently welcomed more than 300 guests, including residents, Future Resident Club members, and community members, for two special presentations featuring nationally recognized downsizing expert Matt Paxton.

The free educational events focused on one of the most important and often emotional aspects of retirement planning: downsizing. For many older adults, the thought of sorting through decades of belongings can be overwhelming and is frequently one of the biggest obstacles to making a move, whether to a retirement community or simply to a more manageable lifestyle.

“Downsizing is often the single greatest barrier we hear about from individuals considering their future housing options,” said Cameron R. Martin, Vice President of Development and Marketing at The Highlands at Wyomissing. “People aren’t just sorting through possessions. They’re sorting through memories, family history, and decades of life experiences. Matt’s ability to address both the practical and emotional sides of that journey is what made these events so meaningful.”

Paxton is widely recognized as the nation’s leading downsizing expert for older adults transitioning to senior living. He is known for his appearances on Discovery’s Filthy Fortunes, the Emmy-nominated PBS series Legacy List with Matt Paxton, and for his work on 15 seasons of HOARDERS. He is also the bestselling author of Keep the Memories, Lose the Stuff and founder of Clutter Cleaner, a nationwide estate cleanout and downsizing company.

During the presentations, Paxton combined humor, personal stories, and practical guidance to help attendees navigate the often-challenging process of deciding what to keep, what to pass along, and how to focus on the memories that matter most. His message resonated with audience members at all stages of life, from those actively preparing for a move to others looking to simplify their homes and reduce future burdens on loved ones.

The event also gave attendees an opportunity to learn more about life at The Highlands at Wyomissing. Members of the community’s Marketing team and Resident Ambassador program were available throughout the day to answer questions, provide information, and share firsthand perspectives about living at the community.

The Highlands also showcased its newly revamped Future Resident Club, designed for individuals who are exploring their future retirement living options. The enhanced program provides exclusive educational opportunities, special events, planning resources, and opportunities to build connections with residents and team members while preparing for future decisions.

“One of the greatest gifts people can give themselves and their families is time,” Martin added. “When individuals begin planning early, they gain more control over their decisions, more options for the future, and less stress during a transition. Events like this help start those conversations and provide the resources people need to move forward with confidence.”
