READING, PA — Skeleton Keyframe, an animation-centric platform and virtual award show based in Reading, Pennsylvania, is thrilled to announce its expansion with its first-ever in-person animation film festival. The all-day event will take place on Sunday, February 28, 2027 at The Albert & Eunice Boscov Theater, located within GoggleWorks Center for the Arts.
Since its founding in 2021, Skeleton Keyframe has celebrated independent animators from around the world. Now in its third season, the festival has grown substantially, having already received nearly 200 qualifying submissions for the 2027 event.
The upcoming festival will feature blocks of short films categorized by animation style — including 2D, 3D, and stop motion — alongside full-length feature film screenings. While tickets for individual films and specific screening blocks will go on sale in early 2027, full-day passes are currently available at https://goggleworks.org/films/skeleton-keyframe-animation-festival-2027.
“It all started as a passion project to create a space where animators could share their work with an audience that truly appreciates it,” says Jon Jordan, Owner and Founder of Skeleton Keyframe. “Given the sheer quantity and quality of submissions pouring in this year, I’m very excited to bring these films to the big screen here in Reading, and to show people that animation is so much more than just a genre targeted at children.”
To celebrate local talent, animators in and around the City of Reading are invited to contact Skeleton Keyframe to have their submission fees waived. Submissions remain open until December 31, 2026.
Following the in-person festival, Skeleton Keyframe will host its annual virtual Animation Awards, broadcasting live on YouTube to honor winning filmmakers across multiple expanded categories, including Best Picture, Best Short, and Best Feature.
