SUMMARY:Turning Dreams into Reality Breakfast\, Benefitting the Literacy Council of Reading-Berks
DESCRIPTION:The Literacy Council of Reading-Berks invites you to our annual Turning Dreams into Reality Breakfast on Friday\, June 5\, 2026\, at Kraras Hall of Wyomissing.\n\nThis year is different. We’re celebrating significant growth\, including our move to a new location that expands our ability to serve adult learners\, and honoring our GED graduates who prove it’s never too late to change your life.\n\nLast year\, our supporters helped us serve over 600 adults through programs that are completely free to students.\n\nThis breakfast is more than a fundraiser; it’s where you’ll hear directly from graduates whose determination opened doors to careers\, education\, and renewed confidence. Their success stories are proof that your investment transforms lives.\n\nWe invite you to attend this event and be part of this pivotal chapter. Your support ensures we can welcome even more students through our new doors and turn their dreams into reality.

SUMMARY:Canteen Volunteer
DESCRIPTION:Someone needs to give out snacks with a smile while monitoring the donors and making sure they are doing well after donating. Why not you? \n\n\n\nHave fun meeting new people and helping your community at the same time! \n\n\n\nCanteen Attendants tend to blood donors after the donation process is complete. They offer a drink and a snack while ensuring the donor is feeling well and remains in the canteen for at least 15 minutes. \n\n\n\nVolunteers can help at a variety of blood drives in the community at schools\, businesses\, churches\, or other community organizations. You choose when and where you would like to volunteer. It could be once a month or as often as you would like. Most of the need is during the workday. We are sorry\, but we cannot help fulfill court-ordered adult community service hours. We are not currently working with employment agencies or placement agencies. \n\n\n\nWe are in need of canteen volunteers in Berks County\, Northern Berks County\, Montgomery County\, Chester County\, and the Boyertown area. Every two seconds\, someone needs blood. Please consider helping us make sure it is available.

SUMMARY:Hubby Jenkins @ Thorn Alley Stage at GoggleWorks
DESCRIPTION:Hubby Jenkins \nThorn Alley Stage at GoggleWorksFirst Friday\, June 5\, 2026Doors at 6 p.m. | Show at 7 p.m.All ages \nPay-what-you-wish | Suggested donation: $15Registration required belowFree parking and gallery admission \nHubby Jenkins is a talented multi-instrumentalist\, historian\, and interpreter of American roots music whose work shines a light on the African-American influence at the heart of country\, blues\, and old-time traditions. A gifted banjoist\, guitarist\, and fiddler\, Jenkins first came to national prominence as a core member of the Grammy Award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops\, a group celebrated for reclaiming the Black string band legacy. \nDriven by a deep passion for the cultural roots of American music\, Jenkins has built a solo career that bridges performance and education. His shows are rich\, soulful journeys through African- American musical history — blending spirituals\, ragtime\, early blues\, and folk with stories that underscore the music’s historical and social context. Whether onstage at a major festival or leading workshops\, Jenkins brings warmth\, authenticity\, and a deep reverence for the tradition. \nIn June 2024\, Hubby Jenkins appeared at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville to celebrate the release of a groundbreaking CD that documents the role of African-Americans in the story of country music. This landmark event was followed by an invitation to perform on the Grand Ole Opry — marking another step in the ongoing recognition of Black artists in American roots genres. \nMost recently\, in May 2025\, Jenkins brought his powerful performance to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival\, where he captivated audiences with his mix of historical storytelling and masterful musicianship. A native of Brooklyn\, NY\, Jenkins has performed at venues and festivals across the U.S. and internationally. His mission remains clear: to elevate the underrepresented contributions of Black musicians in American history while delivering moving\, unforgettable performances rooted in truth and tradition. Through his music\, Hubby Jenkins continues to build bridges between past and present — one note at a time.
