250 Years of Lake & Land in Berks County: Union Canal Paddle Tour
June 11 All day
Celebrate the waterways that helped shape Berks County with this unique guided paddle on the historic Union Canal. Open to paddleboards and kayaks! This relaxing evening tour follows a scenic stretch of the Upper Tulpehocken Creek, where nature and history flow side by side. Once a vital transportation route, the Union Canal helped connect communities and support the growth of our region. Today, you’ll paddle through this living piece of local history while enjoying the beauty of the creek and surrounding landscape. Along the way, we’ll point out remnants of the 1800s canal system, including old locks and towpaths, while sharing stories of the waterway’s past. This is a rare opportunity to paddle where canal boats once traveled and nature has reclaimed the route. This is not a river run. We will launch and return to the same location. Because this tour takes place in the evening, we recommend bringing a headlamp or flashlight. Depending on water flow and the pace of the tour, portions of the paddle may take place at dusk. All equipment is included in the registration price. Choose either a paddleboard or kayak. Have your own equipment? Receive a discount by using code BYOB at checkout.
