Regardless of one’s political affiliations, Kamala Harris’s accession is something to celebrate as she is the first female to hold the second-highest political office in the U.S. She is also the first African-American and the first Asian American vice president. To commemorate Kamala Harris’s historic election as vice-president of the United States in 2020, artist and educator Melanie Yazzie organized a print exchange the following year among nationally recognized printmakers. Yazzie donated one of the portfolios to Albright College, which includes a print from Albright faculty member Kristen T. Woodward, among many others. The portfolio includes a wide variety of print-making techniques and interpretive subject matter chosen by the artists to document Harris and this historic event, and the collection as a whole continues an important dialog about the current state of affairs in U.S. politics.
Virtual Lecture with artist/organizer Melanie Yazzie, Thur., Feb. 9, 4 p.m.
