“Invisible, Gay Women in Southern Music” (2021, 1:47 min.) written and directed by T.J. Parsell

March 1 & 2, 7 p.m., Klein Lecture Hall (Center for the Arts 235) at Albright College

Screening: Growing up gay in the south is hard enough, but to be an openly gay women in country music is nearly impossible. Yet this group of powerful gay women persevered anyhow. Writer/director TJ Parsell takes us behind the scenes of the country music industry and will join us in-person on Friday, March 3 for a talkback Q&A about his film as part of Empowering Albright Voices. The documentary premiered at Framework in 2021 and has been on the festival circuit the past year where it picked up 11 awards for best documentary film. Co-sponsored by the CFA, Music department, Sociology department, Women & Gender Studies program, with support from PRIDE+ and the LGBT Center of Greater Reading.
