Join Sharon Brahmstadt as she Portrays Rebecca Lukens, the First Female Industrialist in the United States.

April 6, 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Friends of Hopewell Furnace cordially invite you to meet Rebecca Lukens, the First Female CEO of an Industrial Company in the United States. She will be portrayed by educator and historian Sharon Brahmstadt. The free program will begin at 2 p.m. in the Hopewell Furnace Visitor Center Theater, 2 Mark Bird Lane, Elverson, PA 19520, on Sunday, April 6.

The Hopewell Furnace Company was a supplier of iron to The Brandywine Ironworks which later was named Lukens Steel in honor of Rebecca Lukens. For nearly 25 years (1825-1850), Rebecca Lukens successfully ran the company. Lukens Steel is still producing iron for America today.

Hopewell Furnace today is the nation’s most complete American Iron Plantation and a national park area run by the National Park Service, an extraordinarily dedicated and hard working federal agency under siege.  The Friends of Hopewell Furnace is the non-profit that supports the National Park and its National Park Service. Now is the time for all park friends to rally around the park and its staff. If you are not able to attend this event, please consider visiting the park soon and showing your support.

Please keep in mind that due to capacity limitations in the park’s theatre, those interested in attending are encouraged to arrive as early as possible prior to the advertised start time to ensure a seat.
