SUMMARY:Auditions for The Great Gatsby: A Live Radio Play
DESCRIPTION:The  Great Gatsby:  A Live Radio Play AUDITIONS \nWHEN: Sunday\, January 12th & Monday\, January 13th: 6:30 – 8:30 PM \nWHERE: ROOM 120 @ Perkins Student Center\, Penn State Berks Campus \nVideo Audition Submissions: Let the stage manager know if you cannot attend either audition date but would still like to audition. Video audition submissions will need an intro slate (who you are) and choice of 1-2 minute monologue. Video submissions will be accepted until January 13th. \nPERFORMANCES: May 16th and 17th @ 8:00 PM\, May 18th @ 2:00 PM \nSUMMARY: “F. Scott Fitzgerald’s beloved classic comes to life as a 1940s radio broadcast in this spirited adaptation of The Great Gatsby. An ensemble brings more than two dozen characters to the WBFR radio station for a live broadcast\, punctuated by 40s-era commercials. A story of triumph and tragedy that reflects the decadence of the Jazz Age and the perils of the American Dream. Still\, ain’t we got fun? \nADAPTATION \nThis will not be your typical live radio show with talented actors standing in a straight light delivering lines with scripts in hands. The actors will be expected to memorize their lines and will not have scripts in their hands. Stylized blocking\, inventive scene transitions\, and live sound effects will add exciting new layers of engagement for the audience while maintaining the vibes and style of a classic live radio show. \nThere will be a handful of cast members who will not have lines but will either be performing the live sound effects or a part of the scene transition team. \nCharacters & Descriptions (Roles can be played by any gender) \nWBFR Playhouse of the Air Actors (most playing multiple characters) \nACTOR 1: FREDDIE FILLMORE \nACTOR 2: JAKE LAURENTS \nACTOR 3: TONY HUNTER \nACTOR 4: SALLY APPLEWHITE \nACTOR 5: LANA SHERWOOD \nACTOR 6: NELSON NORTH \nFor more info\, go to readingcommplayers.com\, or to ask questions\, please send an email to the stage manager at npgenest@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Steve Rossi: Structural Impediments
DESCRIPTION:Steve Rossi: Structural Impediments   \nTues.\, Oct. 24–Fri.\, Dec. 15\, Freedman Gallery at Albright College  \nThis interdisciplinary exhibition includes painting and sculpture inspired by the modernist grid and the language of geometric abstraction\, while being heavily informed by the landscape of the Great Plains region of the United States where groundwater pivot irrigation is widely used to support industrial agriculture. Referencing satellite imagery\, circles from irrigation\, squares delineated by roadways\, and the linear elements of plowed fields are drawn upon for inherent colors\, forms\, patterns and textures. This body of work bears witness to the unsustainable groundwater use supporting the region known as the “breadbasket of the world.” It is widely estimated that the Ogallala Aquifer will be nearly emptied by the year 2070 if current groundwater depletion is not more carefully managed. Through aesthetic engagement\, Rossi hopes to question and raise awareness of the cultural and economic structural impediments that prevent sustainable natural resource stewardship.  \n  \nFor more information\, please visit our website:   \nhttps://www.albright.edu/about-albright/buildings-facilities/center-for-the-arts/freedman-gallery/

SUMMARY:Penn State Berks Pop-Up Restaurant
DESCRIPTION:Penn State Berks Hospitality Management Students will stage a pop-up restaurant project\, Islandside\, “an evening in the Caribbean\,” on Friday\, Nov. 3\, from 5-9 p.m.\, at Penn State Berks’ Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building Lobby. \nEach fall\, students in the capstone food production and service management course stage a real-world pop-up restaurant for their semester project. The students conceptualize\, develop\, implement\, and evaluate the single-night restaurant\, which is open to the public. This immersive learning design helps soon-to-be-graduating seniors hone critical decision-making and technical skills in creating and delivering high-quality hospitality dining experiences. \nThis is the 5th pop-up restaurant being staged at Penn State Berks. This year\, students conceptualized Islandside\, which brings tastes of the Caribbean to Berks County. The students selected this theme as it reflects the diversity in their team as well as within Berks County. \nOver a 90-minute service time\, diners will be served a five-course dinner accompanied by a signature Islandside mocktail under the guidance of consultant chef Ben Lesnick\, Executive Chef\, Berkshire Country Club. \nClick here to place your reservation. (Special note: Only credit/debit card payments will be accepted this year.) \nPenn State Berks looks forward to welcoming you to Islandside\, and thank you for your continued support of our Hospitality Management students and program.
