Premier PARDON ME Documentary

April 19, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

On April 19th,On April 19th, Berks Connections/Pretrial Services (BCPS) is hosting the premier of PARDON ME, at the Miller Center for the Arts. Doors open at 5:45, and the film starts at 6:30, with a panel featuring Shuja Moore, the director immediately following. Light food and beverages will be available prior to the film. It is a FREE event, but attendees must register prior to the event.

The film presents the case for how pardons can help uplift lower-income communities and increase money to states across our country by allowing people with criminal records the opportunity to live as full citizens. The film features the story of two people going through the pardon process in Pennsylvania (one of whom has since been pardoned) and interviews with key thought leaders including Jeff Hornstein, head of The Economy League, and Brandon Flood, former Secretary of the PA Board of Pardons.

PARDON ME was directed by Shuja Moore, filmmaker and “remodeled citizen”. Most known for his webseries Walkies (a docuseries that highlights the transformation stories of the formerly incarcerated), Shuja works to provide narrative justice in media and inspire and rebuild his community through his work in film and nonprofit “Do Moore Good.”

Berks Connections/Pretrial Services is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides services to adult defendants, inmates, and returning citizens and their families. At BCPS, we believe people can change, and when given a second chance, are more likely to succeed in life. The communities we serve are safer and healthier because people in the justice system have the tools and support to live productive, law-abiding lives. The work we do, and the way we do it, improves the success rate of returning citizens.

BCPS also runs the Pardon Project of Berks County, pairing applicants with volunteer Pardon Coaches, who help them tell their story so they can submit their best application. Interested in learning more about BCPS, the Pardon Project of Berks County, applying for a pardon, or to volunteer as a Pardon Coach, go to BCPS’s website: www.berksconnections.org.
