Seeds are one of the most interesting parts of the plant world; because packed into what is sometimes just the size of a grain of sand, is the potential for an entire plant. It’s no wonder then, why the act of seed saving is a long-held tradition by gardeners, cultivators, and ecologists alike. Seed saving is a fun activity and the seeds of many garden vegetable plants are easy to collect and save. Join us in October for presentations on how and when to collect seeds from typical vegetable varieties, common garden flowers, and native plants.  Registrants will learn about collecting and saving seeds – to assure that they are viable the following year – the value of seed packet labeling, and how to idenfity different types of seed heads – as gaining this skill can help determine when and how to collect a plant’s seeds. After the presentations, spend some time at our informational tables discovering different types of seed storage, how to determine seed viability, seed cleaning techniques, and so much more! Plus, stop by to speak with some of the day’s presenters to have your questions answered.  Lastly participants can take a guided walk with us through Berk Nature’s native wildflower gardens, which are actively managed to support native polliantors. Along the way, we’ll point out first hand how to determine if a seed head is ready for collection and how to collect seeds on the go.
