The Importance of Food Safety: An Introduction to the Food Safety Modernization Act

June 8, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Free

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was launched in 2011, as a national initiative to reduce food borne illness. In 2020, massive changes took place in the way customers buy food for their households– making more purchases online in a way that does not allow them to personally judge the sanitation associated with what their family eats. This makes the FSMA core concept of “proactively identifying hazards to food safety and the ways to take control” of larger importance to food entrepreneurs.

This webinar provides an introduction to FSMA impacts on food businesses, and the due diligence necessary to address challenges to safe food for legal sales. Participants will learn how:

Pre-venture enterprises can factor in necessary steps and expense
Retail food businesses can vet local food suppliers’ compliance with FSMA
Farmers adding value can comply with Good Manufacturing Practices and FSMA rules
Current food producers wanting to legally sell wholesale or via eCommerce can work toward compliance with the FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Food rule.
