Vaughan Williams as Composer, Teacher, and Mentor
November 19, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm$5 – $15
Saturday, November 19, 2022, Berks Sinfonietta celebrates Ralph Vaughan Williams with a live concert titled “Vaughan Williams as Composer, Teacher, and Mentor.” The program, marking the 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams’ birth, features Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Six Studies in English Folk Song.
The orchestra will also play music by Gerald Finzi, Grace Williams, and Peggy Glanville-Hicks, all of whom were students and protégés of Vaughn Williams. “Vaughan Williams is well known for his gorgeous compositions,” stated Artistic Director David McConnell. “But fewer people appreciate the lasting effect Vaughan Williams had on English musical life.”
Both Grace Williams’ Sea Sketches and Glanville Hicks’ Gymnopedie No. 1 are Berks County premieres. “Vaughan Williams insisted his students develop a unique voice,” stated James Gilmer, Co-Founder of Berks Sinfonietta. “Local audiences are sure to connect with the music of these two fabulous female composers.”
The performance takes place on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 7:30 pm at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading. The evening’s concert will also be live streamed online by visiting www.berkssinfonietta.org at the scheduled date and time.
Admission to the live performance is $15/Adult & $5/Students. Tickets are available at the door and online at https://berkssinfonietta.ticketspice.com/vaughan-williams-as-composer-teacher-and-mentor.
