The Tony award winning musical will be performed by 2 different casts during the four performance run in May. The story follows 6 young students on their journey at the Spelling Bee in Putnam County. The youngest student – Logianne Schwartzandgrubeniere is out to win the hearts of America and tries desperately not to disappoint her 2 Dads. Marcy Park made it to the National Spelling Bee the year before (with a different county) only to realize that perhaps being the best at everything is highly overrated. Chip Tolentino won Putnam County’s 24th Annual Bee only to be the first eliminated at the 25th Bee because of an unfortunate “distraction.” Olive Ofstrosky is new to the Bee circuit – but is really looking forward to making friends besides her dictionary. William Barfeé, is back for redemption having had to forfeit at last years spelling bee when he had an allergic reaction to peanuts. And then there is Leaf Coneybear, the 3 place finisher at his district bee thrust into the county bee when the winner and the runner-up dropped from competition. The competion is anything but fierce – and the atmosphere is ultra inclusive. 4 audience members are asked to be part of the Spelling Bee at each performance. Come be part of the pun and pandemonium that is The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Performances on May 16 at 7PM and May 18 at 2PM are very suited to children – with most of the cast being students in grades 3-12 with an ensemble too. All the fun and frivolity with a G rated script. The performances on May 17 and May 18 both at 7PM is the script as presented on Broadway, and a cast age 16 and older – playing the young spelling bee hopefuls.
Both casts are terrific – and no performance is ever the same!
