Schuylkill Valley Library Embarks on Expansion of Building

Construction recently began at the Schuylkill Valley Community Library (SVCL), located at 1310 Washington Road in Leesport, Berks County. With Dolan Construction at the helm, the library is undergoing an expansion and renovation of their building to include the following: the addition of a new meeting room and storage space, updated bathroom facilities, installation of automatic entrance doors, and full roof replacement. The construction is expected to be completed in early 2022.

SVCL’s Board of Trustees President, Erica Burch, believes the improvements will provide much needed space for programs and community meetings along with increased accessibility for all.

“SVCL is excited to continue to provide our incredible variety of programs for our community members in an expanded, more comfortable and updated facility,” said Burch.

In the fall of 2020, Pennsylvania Department of Education awarded a Keystone Grant to SVCL totaling $134,712. SVCL must raise the remaining funds needed to complete the project. The SVCL Board of Trustees and Friends of the Library group have been working diligently to organize fundraisers and secure donors to help support the expansion. To date, $72,000 has been raised in support of the project, leaving approximately $110,000 more to raise.

Anyone interested in donating to support the expansion of the library is encouraged to visit the library’s building project page at: https://www.berkslibraries.org/svcl/building-project-2021.
