Faramarz Farbod interviewed Ervand Abrahamian on January 11, 2026, about the new wave of protests in Iran that began on December 28, 2025. Discussions also touched on the US invasion of Venezuela, the kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife, the state of US imperialism and late-stage capitalism, and the European, Russian, and Chinese positions vis-a-vis a possible second round of US/Israeli military attack on Iran.

Abrahamian is an emeritus distinguished Professor of Iranian and Middle Eastern history and politics at the City University of New York and the author of many books, including Iran Between Two Revolutions, The Iranian Mojahedin, Khomeinism: Essays on the Islamic Republic, Tortured Confessions: Prisons and Public Recantations in Modern Iran, A History of Modern Iran, The Coup: 1953, the CIA, and the Roots of Modern U.S.-Iranian Relations, Oil Crisis in Iran: From nationalism to Coup d’Etat, and the forthcoming The Inevitable Revolution.
