In observance of Men’s Health Month this June, Yvonne Stroman, Community Programs Specialist at the Council on Chemical Abuse, hosts a timely discussion on the importance of men’s wellness with guests Greg Day, Lead Therapist at Caron Treatment Centers, and Stephan Fains, Director of Community Engagement & Partnerships at the Berks Community Action Program.
The group explores the value of preventive care and mental wellness, highlighting the critical roles that families, communities, and broader support systems play in fostering healthier lives. They examine why men’s health is frequently neglected, noting that as traditional gender roles evolve, it is becoming easier for men to openly express their emotions.
Additionally, the guests discuss the benefits of “The Forge,” a support group for boys and men of all ages, and touch upon how substance abuse often creates a deceptive sense of relief that ultimately exacerbates underlying issues.
