DESCRIPTION:Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County Presents \n3rd Saturday Summer Program – Archaeology Open House \nSaturday\, September 21\, 2024 • 10:00am-12:00pm \nJoin the Chapter 21 Archaeologists in Morlatton Village to learn more about the archaeological discoveries made on the property. On September 21st\, the Archaeologists will be excavating behind the George Douglas Mansion located next to the White Horse Inn. This area was the location and yard of a nineteenth century frame barn or large wagon shed that was demolished in the 1970s or 80s. In addition to this dig\, archaeology volunteers will have displays in the Mouns Jones House and provide tours of the property. In case of inclement weather\, this presentation will be moved indoors to the White Horse Inn. \nSuggested donation $2/person. All proceeds benefit the Trust. Parking is located across the street from the White Horse Inn on Old Philadelphia Pike. \nThe HPTBC is a non-profit organization that acquires\, preserves\, and maintains historically and architecturally significant properties in Berks County\, Pennsylvania and educates Berks County and its’ visitors about the role these sites played in Pennsylvania and American history. The Trust seeks to foster community involvement and support in promoting awareness and appreciation of historic structures and encouraging their adaptive reuse. The Trust currently owns and maintains eight historically significant buildings in the greater Reading/Berks County area.
