By Safe Berks

Nov 12, 2020

Performance Toyota, Sinking Spring, recently delivered 526 new items to the children of Safe Berks, including 60 hats, 183 sets of mittens/gloves, 230 pairs of socks, and 53 scarves! They also collected $715 to donate to Safe Berks.

These items and funds were collected by the staff of Performance Toyota, Sinking Spring, during October, as part of their fourth annual Hat, Mitten & Sock Drive. Staff, customers, and members of the community donated items and funds to the drive to help keep the children at Safe Berks warm this winter.

“It is a completely humbling experience partnering with Safe Berks, even more so, this year, with the many challenges our community has experienced due to the pandemic,” said Amanda Houck, Internet Director at Performance Toyota. “It was important that we made every effort to ensure the children at Safe Berks have the items they need to stay warm and cozy this winter. We hope these donations will bring them a little bit of comfort during their stay and their months ahead.”

“We are extremely grateful to our customers, families, and employees who donated hats, mittens, and socks as well as cash donations via our Facebook page with all funds going directly to Safe Berks,” said Houck. “We look forward to continuing our support of Safe Berks and the needs of our community.”

Beth Garrigan, Safe Berks CEO, said the donation from Performance Toyota fills a critical need.

“We are so grateful to Performance Toyota for coordinating this important donation drive for the fourth year in a row,” said Garrigan. “Every year, as the weather gets cold, Performance Toyota arrives with hundreds of brand-new hats, gloves, and socks, to keep the children of Safe Berks cozy in the winter. This year, as we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, we need this type of generous support from the community more than ever.”

Each year, Safe Berks provides free services to thousands of local survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Each year, Safe Berks provides shelter to hundreds of adults and children who are fleeing violence in their homes. Safe Berks also provides free counseling, legal services, medical advocacy, and education and outreach. The Safe Berks 24-hour hotline is 844-789-SAFE (7233) or text the words SAFE BERKS to 20121.
