Notice for Berks Voters Who Have Returned Undated, Incorrectly Dated Mail-In and Absentee Ballots

Nov 04, 2022

by The County of Berks

Due to the Nov. 1 ruling from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, mail-in and absentee ballots that are not dated or incorrectly dated will not be counted in the Nov. 8, 2022, General Election. The Berks County Office of Election Services has been segregating these ballots throughout the current election cycle and will continue to do so, per the ruling.

Prior to this ruling, undated and misdated ballots were to be counted and were processed by elections staff as being returned and recorded. Due to this change, the status of those ballots will now be changed to cancelled. When a ballot’s status is changed within the state system, the system automatically generates email notices to voters who have provided an email address. Voters affected by this change may receive such notices today as these ballots are processed. Voters may also check the status of their ballot through the state’s website at this link: Online/Absentee Ballot Tracking (pa.gov)

Any voter who receives such notice that their ballot has been cancelled has two options: They may come into the Office of Election Services to correct the issue with their mail-in or absentee ballot so that it can be counted, or they may go to their polling location on Election Day and vote by provisional ballot.

The Office of Election Services is located in the first floor of the Berks County Services Center at 633 Court Street in Reading. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office will also be open this Saturday, November 5, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to assist voters. Voters who have questions may contact the Office of Election Services at 610-478-6490.
