George, Bossler, Buckwalter, Lavrich, and Zeppos represent five local high schools to feature in the 2024 squad.

On Sunday, May 5, Reading United A.C. announced the addition of five local players to the 2024 squad. United’s women’s team received the commitments (pending league approval) of Ashley Lavrich, Sophia Zeppos, and Anna Buckwalter, along with veterans Grace George and Jane Bossler. Buckwalter, Lavrich, and Zeppos are key members of the strong youth side FC Revolution Red’s 2006 women’s team that have been perennially nationally ranked under the leadership of their coach, Eric Franks. The Red were the 2023 National League P. R. O. – Champions.

Grace George joins Reading, bringing vast experience to complement the young Reading squad. The former Conrad Weiser HS captain amassed 171 points on 76 goals and 19 assists over her four-year varsity career at Conrad Weiser. George was a former All-Berks and All-State selection while at Conrad Weiser, in addition to her being named Berks Player of the Year. After graduating from Conrad Weiser, George had a very successful collegiate career at Division 1 Sienna College. The Sienna captain was a stalwart defender for her Saint’s team and was a CSC Academic All-District selection and MAAC All-Academic Team nominee. George also brings experience in the pre-professional game, having spent three seasons with the Lancaster Inferno women’s team.

Midfielder Jane Bossler is a 2019 Exeter HS graduate and four-year starter who has plied her trade in college at USC Upstate and Long Island University. Bossler makes her Reading debut after missing the 2023 inaugural season due to injury. The former Olympic Development Program (ODP) and US Soccer Regional training pool player is a former All-Big South honorable mention. Bossler also has experience with summer soccer, last playing for Philadelphia LoneStar women.

Buckwalter is a Binghamton commit who will be graduating from Daniel Boone HS this May. The crafty midfielder will bring her ODP and US Soccer Regional pool experience as she looks to complement the Reading midfield. Buckwalter scored 14 goals for Daniel Boone last fall and is a three-time All-Berks selection.

Lavrich is a Monmouth University commit who graduates from Twin Valley HS this spring. The former All-State and two-time All-Berks forward selection led the Raiders with 18 goals and three assists in 2023. She scored 50 career goals and was named the Twin Valley team MVP for three seasons. She is also a past ODP selection while with her FC Revolution team. Additionally, she was a 2023 U17 National League PRO Best XI Midfielder in Greensboro, N.C.

Zeppos, a junior at Wyomissing HS, was the 2023 Berks Player of the Year, All State selection and a three-time All Berks selection, Zeppos led Berks with 22 assists and ranked second with 24 goals and 70 points. The midfielder led Wyomissing to the 2023 county championship.  Zeppos is a University of Delaware commit and will be one of three Wyomissing HS alumni to feature for Reading United.

Head Coach Tom Gosselin summarized the exciting local talent that is joining the 2024 team stating, “Berks County additions, George, Lavrich, Zeppos Buckwalter, Bossler along with Gshrey, Kurtas, Kotula, Hoke, Kuhn allow Reading United to honor their commitment to give local players a chance to compete at the highest levels. Our Berks County base is such a huge key for our fans, our organization, and our coaches. We are proud to be able to showcase these players this season.”

Reading United women begin their 2024 home slate on Friday, May 24, at Alvernia University Stadium when they face LVU Rush. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Season Tickets for the 2024 WPSL season, as well as single-game tickets, are available at readingunitedac.com/tickets
