The Berks County Parks & Recreation department continues to present programs promoting nature, history, and outdoor activity throughout the month of May 2024.

Sunday, May 5 | Wildflower Walk | 9 a.m. @ Gring’s Mill

Walk the trails on the Union Canal Trail with staff member Kathy Grim to discover spring ephemeral wildflowers throughout the park. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring water.

Free | Registration is required.

Sunday, May 5 | History of Quilts Through the Years | 2 p.m. @ Heritage Center

Cyndi Hershey, Quilt Education and Development Director for the Kutztown Folk Festival, will present an interesting power point program that will highlight the festival’s world famous Quilt Barn.

Free | Open to the public.

Sunday, May 19 | The Lebanon Valley Railroad and Heritage Park | 2 p.m. @ Heritage Center

This slide presentation by Paul Miller, President of the Sinking Spring Area Historical Society, will take the audience on a historical ride, beginning at Reading’s Outer Station, traveling along the Lebanon Valley line of the P& R RR, also into Lancaster County on the Reading & Columbia RR.. A stop will be made at Heritage Park in Sinking Spring concerning the history of its railroad buildings and their relocation and restoration.

Tuesday, May 21 | Read with a Ranger: Water | 10 a.m. @ Antietam Lake Park

Join Park Rangers on an adventure! Kids ages 3-5 are invited to enjoy a themed story, go for a walk on the trail, and complete a craft to become an honorary Junior Ranger.

Free | Registration is suggested.

Thursday, May 23 | Full Moon Hike & Yoga | 7:30 p.m. @ Berks Leisure Area

Take a few deep breaths, a downward dog or two, and relax for an easy intro session of yoga before heading out onto the Union Canal Trail to take in the moonlight. Bring your own yoga mat, water, and a sturdy pair of walking shoes.

Tuesday, May 28 | Homeschool Hour: Water | 10 a.m. @ Antietam Lake Park

Join Parks staff in discovering the wonders of water! This is not a drop-off program.

$5 per child | Registration is required.
