From Berks Career & Technology Center
The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) hosted the 2026 Sea, Air, & Land (SeAL) Challenge on Thursday, April 30, at the Berks Career & Technology Center (BCTC), West Campus, located at 1057 County Road, Leesport, PA.
Known as the “SeAL Challenge,” this 12- to 16-week STEM initiative engages teams of high school students in hands-on learning centered on the engineering design process. Throughout the program, students design and build robotic systems while developing problem-solving, collaboration, and innovation skills.
On Challenge Day, student teams compete in realistic Sea, Air, or Land missions modeled after scenarios faced by the military, national security agencies, and first responders. Each team is tasked with addressing a core challenge while troubleshooting obstacles along the way.
This year’s event featured 12 teams competing in the Land Challenge, six teams in the Sea Challenge, and five teams in the Air Challenge.
In addition to enriching student learning, the SeAL Challenge supports high school educators and administrators in implementing meaningful science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programming within their schools.
